The Golden Dogs!

I had a shoot the other day for the cover of the 2011 GRRAND calendar.  That’s the calendar that raises money for the Golden Retriever Rescue and Adoption of Needy Dogs. It’s a wonderful organization serving Louisville, Lexington and Cincinnati.

The calendar cover goes to the highest bidder during the live auction at the GRRAND Affair fundraiser. In this year’s calendar (2010), you’ll find the gorgeous Beatrice gracing the cover.

But the 2011 calendar cover will be entirely different because it will feature *three* fabulous goldens!

Meet Wade, Duke and Madeleine……

Wade is a darling older chap. He’s on the left. He is just the most gentle soul- and he was the easiest to shoot because he was very alert and cooperative!  Duke is in the middle and he was the toughest to photograph because he wanted to be with his Dad every minute and kept wandering out of the shot. But who can blame him, right? By the way, just how much do you *love* Duke’s spotty tongue. It totally makes that shot, I think!  And Maddy, the super photogenic dog on the right, would have probably stood on her head for the right treat. She’s adorable!

I think you can tell these guys are great buddies, I love that they will just squeeze together for a shot. That’s kind of unusual- a lot of times the dogs want just a little space from each other!

I think the image below is really fun because they’re just hanging in their back yard. Madeleine and Wade are looking right at my hand ( there’s a treat in it) and Duke is looking off at his Dad. Cute!

I think the photograph below might be my favorite. I just think it shows their personalities because Wade looks like he’s in a dog show- standing perfectly and being a good boy, Duke is a tiny bit anxious because his Dad isn’t right there but he’s trying his best not to show it, and Madeleine is staring at that treat I’m holding like she’s afraid it’s going to fly away. Ha!  It’s really fun to shoot multiple dogs, especially when they are so big and gorgeous as these guys.

So… not sure which image we’ll end up choosing for the calendar cover, but I’m happy we pulled it off:)  These dogs really deserve the cover because they have all been through a lot at some time in their lives. They are all rescues and bring such great joy to their parents- as adopted dogs almost always do!

Beagle-mania!

Now that the power is back on- I’ve been able to turn my attention to some adorable beagles I photographed last week!

Doodles is the youngest and is newly adopted from the Kentucky Humane Society. He’s very attentive and lovable. I mean- I seriously wanted to take him home with me!

Daisy is the middle child. She is a hoot. When she wants a treat- she howls. And since she pretty much always wants treats, there was a lot of noise from her!

She’s really silly! The reason she’s on the table is that I had my treat bag there and she hopped up to try to grab some:)

Buddy is the senior guy in the house. He’s beautiful and sweet. I love older dogs with their white muzzles and sweet expressions.

Lots of wisdom in those eyes!

I LOVE beagles!! They’re the best:)

Snow Day!!

I don’t think anyone was more excited about today’s snow day than my son. It’s funny how he doesn’t ever get cold- he’s probably been sledding for four hours straight!

However, in a close second to my son is my dog Daisy. She loves, LOVES the snow. It makes her so happy!

She’s had that red ball since she was a puppy- it’s her favorite thing in the world!

Little Henry- he isn’t quite as overjoyed by the snow- especially since it’s deeper than his little legs!

How cute is he? He tries so hard to keep up with crazy Daisy!

You gotta love a good snow!!

And you’ve gotta love how I still haven’t updated my copyright. Better go do that now, oops!

Hadley Jo

Hadley Jo is a Cavapoo! I have to admit- that was a new one on me. She’s a mix between a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle (OK- you probably could have guessed the poodle part!).

Super cute, right?

Hadley Jo is named after her mother’s husband, Joe, who passed away less than a year ago. She said she would never have gotten out of bed if it hadn’t been for Hadley Jo. She said that she and Joe picked out Hadley on the internet before he died. But he passed away before they could pick her up. So, she reluctantly went to see her with a friend.  She said she would only take Hadley home if the puppy kissed her on the lips right away. Well, I guess you know what happened then- and Hadley Jo is now one of the more loved dogs on the planet:)

This is her Christmas picture!

She has great fur- really soft and silky. So.. with a breezy day, we got some really cute shots of her hair blowing around!

She was a really spunky little thing… but we tired her out by the end of the shoot!

A seriously cute dog, right? And I know when she went home, she was ready for a long nap!

Sadie and Star

Ok- crazy times right now!! I photographed these gorgeous labs last week and am just now getting to show them to you!! But hope it’s worth the wait….

Star and Sadie are 11 year old black labs. They live on a farm and so we had a lot of great backdrops! Sadie and Star’s owner restores old gas tanks- so here they are posing with a few of them.

Sadie is a little more active than Star. And she has the most incredible eyes- I mean.. check these babies out! They are such  a deep amber- love it.

I did a high-contrast black and white with Sadie and I think she looks incredible.  She has some really intense expressions.

She’s just a really gorgeous dog. Although- she did spend most of the photo shoot scooting across the grass to scratch her rear. It’s always the most attractive models that are the most difficult, right?

Star is also a doll. She doesn’t have those intense eyes- she just has that really sweet lab look. Very lovable! Oh- and she has very selective hearing loss. She can’t hear a word unless the word happens to be “treat”. :)

I saved my favorite for last. I don’t know if I’ll ever have a chance to get this shot again. These longhorns just strolled over to check us out and turned out making the portrait! The funniest thing about this picture is the “behind the scenes”.. because we had Erin jumping up and down and screaming and  waving her arms behind me and her husband was beside me with a squeaker and I was barking and making puppy noises. It looked a little like a scene from the loony bin… but it all worked out in the end!   But I kind of think Sadie has that expression that says ” you do know you are all insane, right?”

So…. had big fun on the farm!! Now…. back to work on those Holiday orders!!!!
