A horse of a different color….

I get to meet all kinds of different breeds of horses doing this work. This was a new one for me- a Spotted Saddle Horse. His name is Tumbleweed.

Tumbleweed likes to run and buck, chew on just about anything, and eat just about anything.

One thing he does not like to do is stand still for pictures! But, in pet photography, it’s all about perseverance!

And not only did we end up with numerous portrait shots of Tumbleweed, we even managed to get some posed shots with his best human friend and the dog he wishes would be his friend.

It seems Tumbleweed is really quite enamored with Maverick the greyhound. But… remember when I said he likes to chew on everything?

This is right before the yelp from Maverick and this is my last picture of the two of them together!

Maverick is the opposite of Tumbleweed in that he will pose for photos all day. He is the sweetest, most loving guy in the world. And gorgeous, too!

Ok, back to the star of the show. Look at the eyes on this horse! If he only knew how beautiful he is in photographs, maybe he’d stand still more often!

Mini Dogs in the Big City

I do so many shoots in a farm or a home setting that it was really fun to do this one in downtown Louisville.

These little girls had a big time in the city!

This is actually a shoot for a new Doggie Daycare opening up on next month at the corner of Spring Street and Mellwood Avenue. It’s going to be called the Paws Zone.

These photos will go into the front entrance of the daycare.  The dogs belong to the owner of the daycare, Diane.  They’re miniature pinschers. Tiny little things! And we were lucky to have a warm day, because they are apparently very cold natured. We didn’t have any shaking at all in the 70 degree weather! This is sweet Lilly, isn’t she adorable? I had to get a solo shot of her!

We had so much fun taking these guys around Waterfront Park. And the fall colors are so gorgeous right now!

If you’d like any more information on the Paws Zone, you can contact Diane at diane@purrfectpawspetsitting.com!

Sweet little farm dog!

Have you ever seen a dog cuddle like this?

I mean…go in for the big hug with eyes closed and paws out?

Absolutely adorable and heartwarming- I love it!

This is beautiful Birdie. She’s a rescued Brittany Spaniel with a huge personality and, as you can see, complete devotion to her human!

Do you see that little orange thing in the picture below? It’s a piece of cheese. Birdie goes cuckoo for cheese! :)

In the photo below, Birdie was checking out the horses in the field next door. She was just sort of peeking through the fence at them- wasn’t really sure what to think of those big guys!

I think Birdie looks like she should live on a farm. She is so regal and beautiful. What a cool dog!

On the Hunt

I love to photograph sporting dogs. They are so active and full of joy. And of all the dogs, I think they may have the most fun on the shoot because they can run and play all they want- plus they get a lot of treats and praise. Pretty much the perfect scenario for your typical sporting dog :)

So…. needless to say…. we did have some good times  with McQueen and Cody.

This is McQueen. He’s actually a former champion show dog. But even though he has not hunted, he truly has the hunting instinct of his breed, the German Shorthaired Pointer. You should have seen him with the buzzards flying overhead- he didn’t know what to do with those big birds- he was mesmerized!

I can usually tire out any dog within about 20 minutes, but McQueen may hold my record for length of time in complete activity! He probably ran, I don’t know, the equivalent of 10 miles?

This guy knows how to have fun- he is a happy, happy dog!

Cody is the same breed as McQueen but is just a little more subdued.  She’s a lovely, wise older dog. Gorgeous, isn’t she?

I love the dogs in sepia- I think it just makes the photograph feel like autumn! And they’re coloring is so beautiful.

Both of these dogs are truly devoted to their human. And they really enjoyed the quality time with him- chasing sticks, and balls, and posing for treats!

Pretty much the perfect morning to kick off an extraordinary fall day.

My son took these photos……..

…..of me at my first National Reining Horse Association horse show!

That’s me with my “rental” horse, Molly Melody in front of a packed house ( ha!)

I got a score of “0″. Of course, that’s the worst you can get. But I actually was pretty pleased because I did a decent job through the entire pattern until the very end when I thought I was finished and backed up a few steps. Who knew you couldn’t do that? Certainly not me- as I neglected to read the rule book. Oh well.

Here’s another photo of Molly and me ( courtesy of my wonderful son who patiently endured the two-day horse show in Bowling Green.)

She’s so cute, isnt’ she?:) And you should see her spin and slide- she’s a pro!

I had a great time with my trainer, Cory Craig, of Craig Performance Horses and all my reining friends. ( Luckily they all scored better than me!) And they talked me down as I was truly a bit nervous in my first reining show.

I’m sure I’ll have many more to come- and the good news is…. I have no place to go but up!
