Hello!

I'm Beth Andrews and I photograph animals almost every day. How is that for a great job?!

I live in Louisville, Kentucky with my husband Bruce, my son Jake; my dogs, Daisy and Henry; and my horse, Kid ( who is, by the way, the longest male relationship of my adult life- we've been together for 19 years!).

I've always been an animal fanatic. Truly- I can't think of anything better in the world than to wake up every morning knowing I get to mix and mingle with really cool pets and their wonderful people. I find it profoundly rewarding to make an animal really shine in a photograph. And if capturing the beauty, wisdom and unique character of animals helps people appreciate them more- then that's even better.

So, thanks so much for stopping in and checking out my blog. We'll meet some pets here who will make you laugh- others will touch your heart. We'll also chat about the pet community in the Louisville area and whatever other mostly insightful ramblings we happen to come up with!

Oh- and if you'd like to learn a little more about Hound and Hoof Pet Photography, you can just click right here: www.houndandhoof.com.

Enjoy!

Dogs of a different color…

I realized today as I was running through some files that I neglected to post one of my very favorite pre-holiday shoots! And the colors on this day QUITE the contrast over our current winter dullness! Ahh….

This is Sporty, Daisy and Churchill and they have their very own farm! How beyond wonderful is that for three “I love to run and drool and play” kind of dogs?

Below: Meet Churchill. He’s the brains of the operation- loves trees, bones, twigs and cameras!

Next: Daisy= dane + lab. Daisy is everyone’s best friend. She loves jumping on Churchill and chasing Daisy.

And last- but, as they say, not least- is Miss Sporty. She loves her Mom and she loves to run. She does not love cameras. She doesn’t love them at all. But we managed to catch her in some lovely photos- which wasn’t too hard since she really doesn’t take a bad picture.

So as I am sitting at my desk with my parka on because I am freezing and my feet are wet…. I am just remembering this day that was sunny and crisp and really fun! Makes me smile:)

Children + Dogs = Joy

I’ve been photographing a lot of children lately.   Tis the season for family portraits!

Thought I’d share a few of my latest shoots……

These lovely, lovely girls have an unabashed adoration for their puppy, Maya.

And Maya ( as you can obviously see) is quite enamored with her job as faithful companion.

Look at her sweet, happy little face :)

You’ve met Lucy before- I’ve taken her portrait before by herself. But today she is now surrounded by her family and I think she seems much happier!

I do love this shot of just Lucy. She’s a really beautiful dog- and she’s a deep thinker, too. That mind is always working!

And.. I would be remiss if I didn’t show you one of the photos on my Christmas card this year. This is my son, Jake and my dog, Daisy. (Don’t worry- my other dog Henry definitely made the card, too - see post below :) )

My son is now officially at the age where he does not like to be photographed. So.. I feel kind of proud of this one. Only cost me a Lacrosse magazine and a waiver on his chores for a day. I don’t care what they say- bribery will get you everywhere!

HO HO HO

Is it REALLY two weeks until Christmas????

As I cram to get in the final, final Christmas orders.. I must pause to update this seriously neglected little blog.

Time management may not be my greatest skill. I’m not sure I even have it in my skill set at all. Every day I look at the to-do list and my heart races a bit. I’m sorry in advance to any of you who will not get holiday cards this year. Printing my own cards is falling way behind in the pecking order.

However… I did take a Christmas photo of my dog, Henry, the other day which I must share because it’s like the cutest picture EVER!

Here it is- get ready to sigh……

I mean, is it just me? I LOVE this photo of him.. he is the most adorable creature on the planet.

So sweet, ahh..

Anyway. I’m planning a massive blog post here in the next little bit that will include my faves from all the Christmas shoots I’ve done but haven’t had time to blog about. So… stay tuned for that. But in the meantime…. ahhhhh. Man, I love dogs!!!!

Gabby and Foxy

First of all, for those of you who follow my blog…… I am sorry for the long period of silence!!

It’s that time of year…  craziness!!! I’ve been pumping out orders and shooting, shooting, shooting. So… the blog has fallen a bit ( OK.. more than a bit) behind.    But.. I hope you’ll find this entry worth the wait……

I have a special affinity for shelties. My first dog was a sheltie when I graduated from college and went out into the world on my own. I LOVED that nutty little dog!

So it was really so much fun to photograph Gabby and Foxy. Foxy is the smaller of the dogs.. she looks like… well… a fox. ( aren’t you glad I’m here to clue you in on these things :)

She is super shy.. as some shelties are… but she did gradually warm up to me and my big, scary camera. She actually ended up being quite the little model!

Gabby is more outgoing and she is really gorgeous. She reminds me of my sheltie, Derby, because they are almost the same size. BIG! I love her dark coat and her big brown eyes. What a lovely girl.

.

Frosty and Patti!

I try not to have any preconceived notions about my dog models before I get to know them.. but I have to admit that I did judge these two a bit and I got it ALL wrong!

Frosty and Patti came together for their photo shoot with their two humans, who are sisters. Frosty was initially so quiet and reserved while Patti was jumping all around that I certainly thought Patti would be the more challenging to shoot!

But… Frosty decided right away that I was just not that interesting. Neither were my treats or my toys or my animal noises! It must be a Westie thing. I mean, he is adorable and so sweet- but he definitely knows he’s a handsome guy and he knew he was in hot demand! And nothing I did seemed to really catch his eye… until…… I brought out the ole’ 15 cent duck whistle!

What a face, right? I had to finagle a bit, but once he got the hang of working the camera- he pretty much went for it! Here, he’s showing off his best side:)

Frosty is just gorgeous, isn’t he? Wow! Adorable.

Now… back to first impressions…. I thought Patti was going to be a little wild child with her wiggly behind and her happy little self. But can this dog pose or what?!!! This dog was fantastic to photograph! I swear if dogs could be paid to model, she’s be a millionaire!

I’m not sure what all to say about Patti except that I could have taken a million photos of her. She was perfectly attentive and polite. She did pretty  much anything I asked. She’s really a lovely dog.

Patti and Frosty were a blast to photograph- each in their own way. That’s what makes this job so much fun. Every animal is different and… I’ve learned…. you can never judge a dog by it’s cover:)
